Mobile radars/lidars used in Spain in 2026

Hi,

 

I would like to know which mobile radars and mobile lidars are used in Spain nowadays.

I can find a lot of info on this forum, but a lot of the posts are old. Fixed and mobile equipment are also mentioned mixed with each other.

 

I don't care about the fixed equipment since Waze will warn me for it. I only care about the mobile equipment which Waze will miss if no one else marked it on Waze.

I will take my radar detector to Spain and would like to know which frequencies I need to activate for the mobile radars.

 

From the information I gathered I think this should be sufficient:

Ka band 34.3 GHz ±100 MHz (mobile MN6F)

MRCD (mobile MRCD)

Laser (Velolaser, TruCAM II)

 

Is this information complete and up to date? Which mobile equipment will I see the most?
I am interested in general information about the radar/lidar equipment in Spain, but will be mainly driving around Almeria, Murcia and Alicante.

Good questions, and you’re right a lot of the information online about Spain is outdated and makes it confusing.

 

What you listed is mostly correct, but it is not completely exhaustive.

• In Spain, Ka band 34.3 GHz (Multanova 6F) is still in use and you will continue to see it . 

• MultaradarCD (MRCD) is currently the most common mobile radar in Spain. It is used in patrol cars, parked vehicles and on tripods. 

• DAHUA radars are also present. These are K-band, modulated radars and can be deployed both fixed and mobile on tripods. They are not as widespread as MultaradarCD yet, but their presence is growing and they are definitely part of the current landscape. 

• CIRANO 670 radars exist in Spain and are already installed in fixed locations. At this moment, there are no visually confirmed mobile deployments on the road, but the technology itself exists and is active in the country.

Regarding laser enforcement, it represents around 15% of total radars in Spain. Velolaser is used on tripods, inside vehicles and in very discreet setups. TruCAM and TruCAM II are used by local police, Mossos (Catalonia) and Ertzaintza (Basque Country). Classic handheld laser guns such as Ultralyte are also still used (Local Police in Madrid).

 

In addition to those, there are still some Autovelox units in service. They are much less common than in the past, but a few remain and can still be encountered.
